If you answered (B) Roman…You are Correct!

The ancient Romans started it: the bride had to show that she was not at all crazy about leaving her father’s home, and so was dragged over the threshold to her groom’s house. Ancients also believed that evil spirits, in a last-ditch effort to curse the couple, hovered at the threshold of their new home, so the bride had to be lifted to ensure that the spirits couldn’t enter her body through the soles of her feet. These days, it’s just fun!

Business Tip of the day….Ready for an “Uncle Sam’s Audit”? 4/26/2013

Lydia Short- President & CEO

So you get that dreaded letter…”It’s TIME…an Audit from the IRS”….what do you do? Panic… pull your hair out…nibble on your nails?

When there is slow/down time in your business….its time for you to work on your business infrastructure. How do you sure-up your infrastructure?
i) Maintain your records,
ii) Do due-diligence on your company (after all you do it for everyone else including your clients)…
ii) Keep good records, (file regularly and record expenses daily if not weekly)
You shouldn’t be in business if you don’t know what your accounts/bookkeeping looks like…(even if you hired a great bookkeeping/accounting firm to manage your book) Please know what’s going on in your business. Always get things in writing.

How you get ready for an audit?

Personally coming from my years on Wall Street (which has made me Compliance OCD) I run my business like a Compliance Boot-camp…lol…so when “Uncle Sam” come knocking/calling for an audit it takes me a few hours gathering up supporting documentation.

~Always Optimistic

Lydia

If you answered (A) you are correct!

The Tradition of the Bride standing on the Groom’s Left Originated in Ancient Rome!

“This was much more than meaningless etiquette. Among the Northern European barbarians (a name given to them by the Romans), a groom placed his captured bride to his left to protect her, as he kept his right hand free to use for defense. Also originating from this practice of abduction, which literally swept a bride off her feet, sprang the later symbolic act of carrying the bride across the threshold of her new home. It may well be that even the honeymoon had its origin with this capture scenario. It may well have served as a cooling-off period for the bride’s family. It was the groom’s hope that when the newlyweds returned from their honeymoon that all would be forgiven.” ___Article via BrideAndGroom.com

If you answered (C) you are correct!

The Veil has been said to have had its origin in ancient Greek and Roman Cultures. It was worn by a bride to protect her from evil spirits, which was believed to have had the power to harm her if she didn’t wear a veil.

Some say that a Bride’s use of the veil in the past was a symbol of her willingness to be submissive to her husband. Today the wearing of a veil signifies: A wedding…Joy…and simply highlights a Bride’s beautiful appearance and features!

What do think? Would you have your Bridesmaids wear GREEN? We all know how David Tutera feels about Green!

Well guess What? You will never Guess! Green is my favorite color…But when I got married 17 years ago, green was not my wedding color…I couldn’t bring myself to have my bridesmaids wear Green! I gave them three options Purple, Pink, and champagne to choose from and they couldn’t decide…So I went for my husband’s favorite color which was Royal/Navy Blue! However, I did have an elements of Green. My mom surprised me by wear an amazing Emerald Green Gown!

The Wedding Cake (“Bride’s Pie” Ancient France) got it’s origin in ancient Rome, where bread was broken over the Bride’s head to bring the couple good fortune.

In Medieval England the cakes were stacked very high and the couple would have to kiss over it without knocking it over…if they succeeded they guaranteed that they would have a prosperous life together forever. Guests were given a piece of cake out of politeness. It was considered very rude and bad luck not to eat the (Bride’s Pie) wedding cake.
